Dear Murrah Classmates:

This is a reminder of the highlight of the past half-century: the Murrah High School Class of 1957’s Golden Anniversary Reunion to be held the weekend of April 27 & 28, 2007 in Jackson.

Details of this event and a registration form were distributed this past August as shown in an attachment to this mailing. Highlights are as follows:

  1. The cost for the entire weekend is $100 per person.  Events are individually priced as shown below.

  1. Checks should be mailed by April 1 and made payable to Murrah High School Class of 1957. These should be sent to Lisa Davis at 3 Waterstone Place, Jackson, MS 39211. The email address is leledavis39@gmail.com.  Phone number is (601) 713-2888. Please refer any questions, late registrations, changes or other information needs to her.

  1. The Edison-Walthall Hotel at 225 E. Capitol St. (601/948-6161) or toll free (800/932-6161), is the headquarters hotel, as well as the site for the dance on Saturday night. The hotel has a shuttle service available for approximately a five-mile radius which includes the Agriculture and Forestry Museum and the Fairview Inn. There will be a hospitality suite available for class members of all participating schools and a block of double occupancy rooms has been reserved at $85 per night. Those making reservations should mention the Murrah Class of 1957 Reunion.

  1. Additional facilities are available in the Jackson area for any wishing to stay somewhere other than the Walthall. There is a nice RV camping area at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park, formerly Riverside Park. It is accessibly from Lakeland Drive just east of I-55. Enclosed is a list of several places to stay, including the elegant Fairview Inn, with contact information.

Following is a brief recap of activities for the Reunion, which were sent with the first mailing.

9:00 p.m. Dance at Walthall Hotel (Parking garage entrance on Pearl St.)
Entertainment – Live music will be provided by Andy Anderson and the Rolling Stones for members of the 1957 Murrah, Central, Provine and St. Joseph High Schools and their guests. A hospitality suite will be available at the Walthall for after-hours visiting.

Please refer to the attachments for other information and a registration form. You are urged to complete this form and get it to us as soon as possible. In the unthinkable event you cannot attend, please send in your form anyway so we will know you received it and can keep our database current. Please include an email address or a fax number if at all possible.

Another reason we need your response is that we plan to publish a Resume 1957/2007. Each classmate will have a page to communicate with the rest of us, but please note: This is not the forum for listing 50 years of jobs, grandchildren and non-profit work. We want to hear what you are thinking. For example:

  • What is an issue about which you would like to share your thoughts?
  • What is the one project you are passionate about in retirement?
  • What was it about our high school days that most influenced your life path?
  • What is your most cherished memory of those days?
  • What would you do differently?
  • If you have never been to a reunion, why not?
  • In short, what do you want to say to your classmates? Tell us! (Just keep it to one page, please. That is all we can afford to print.)

Your page will feature your annual picture (and a current photo if you provide it) and current contact information as well as your personal letter or essay. Resume 1957/2007 will be a tool to connect and stay in touch with each other. Your letter may be typed or hand written, emailed, faxed or U.S. mailed. Just do it and mail it to Lisa’s address above. We do not want any class- mate’s page to be blank!

Resume 1957/2007 will be distributed at the reunion, but those unable to attend can order a copy for the cost of printing and mailing. If you would like one mailed to you, check the appropriate place on the registration form.  We will let you know the cost later.

One more thing: We will have our very own website, www.murrah57.com up and running in March. There you will find a listing of classmates and contact information, and details about the 50th reunion. Budget and time constraints will limit what we can do at first, but as time and funds allow we plan to expand it to include photos, news and lots of interesting stuff. The possibilities are endless, so if you still have not embraced the computer culture, visit someone who has (your grandchild, for instance) and get them to pull it up!

Please let us hear from you ASAP. April will be here sooner than you think and we want to reserve a place for you!
